Softball Releases 2020 Schedule

2020 Worcester State Softball Schedule

WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester State University head softball coach Keri Bianchini announced her team's 2020 schedule on Wednesday afternoon.

The 38-game schedule includes 14 games at Ralph Raymond Diamond, and six contests against 2019 NCAA Tournament teams.

The Lancers open the season on Sunday, March 15 with games against St. Lawrence University and Macalester College in Clermont, Florida, the first two of 10 games on the team's annual Spring Break trip. Other non-region opponents Worcester State will face in the Sunshine State include University of Minnesota Morris, Augsburg University, and Edgewood College.

Upon returning to the northeast, the Lancers will head back to the diamond for a road doubleheader against Nichols College on March 24. The following day, Worcester State will play its home opener, hosting a twinbill against Coast Guard at Raymond Diamond. WPI, Rhode Island College, and Brandeis also highlight Worcester State's 2020 non-conference schedule.

Worcester State opens conference play at Bridgewater State on March 28. Fitchburg State will be the first MASCAC opponent to visit Raymond Diamond in 2020 when they come to town on April 7.

On April 25, Worcester State will hold its annual Senior Day when reigning conference champion Framingham State visits Chandler Street in the regular season finale for both teams.

The Lancers will have a whole new look in 2020, returning just seven players from its 2019 roster, while nine will don Worcester State uniforms for the first time. 2019 MASCAC All-Conference Infield selections Ashley Lynch (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Samantha Stake (Worcester, Mass.) highlight Worcester State's returners, and have also been named the team's captains.

Worcester State's top newcomers include sophomore Jen Thorburn (Groton, Mass.), a transfer from Lesley University where she was a New England Collegiate Conference Third Team All-Conference selection as a freshman pitcher last season, and catcher Melissa Silva (Uxbridge, Mass.).

"We are excited about our competitive schedule for the 2020 season," said Coach Bianchini. "I expect our young team will have lots of room to grow against some of the top-level competition we will be facing this year."
