
WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University softball team has been predicted to finish third this season in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Poll.
The team receiving the most votes was Framingham State University, which received 47 points and five first place votes. Bridgewater State University was close behind in second with 44 points and three first place votes. The Lancers received 35 points which was good for third in the conference. They were followed closely behind by Westfield State University (31 points) and Fitchburg State University (26 points). Rounding out the poll, in order, were MCLA, Salem State, and Mass. Maritime. Worcester State was unable to compete in the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Worcester State will be led by graduate student Samantha Stake (Worcester, Mass.), who contributed in 2019 with 32 hits and 15 RBIs, and a .296 batting average. The performance landed her a spot on the MASCAC Second Team All-Conference.
Worcester State will open its season at home on March 20 with a doubleheader against Anna Maria. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. and can be streamed live at WSULancers.com/broadcast. Spectators will not be allowed at Raymond Diamond.
