Lancers Top Lancaster Bible to Secure Third Straight Split

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Worcester State played a pair of one-run games on Wednesday at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic, securing their third straight doubleheader split of their spring break trip.

The Lancers defeated Lancaster Bible 4-3 in their second game of the day after falling to Keene State 5-4.

Softball returns to the field tomorrow for an 11:30 AM game against Wilson and a 3:30 PM game against Lycoming. They will also be taking over the Worcester State Athletics Instagram account (@wsulancers) tomorrow to give fans a look inside their trip to Myrtle Beach.

Game 2: Worcester State 4, Lancaster Bible 3

Emily Bartlett (Lowell, Mass.) struck out ten batters in a complete game victory and singled in the eventual game-winning run in the fifth as Worcester State twice came from a run down to top the Chargers in the second ever meeting between the sides.

Bartlett went all seven innings and gave up three runs on six hits while picking up her first win of the year.

The Lancers tied the game at one in the bottom of the second when Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, Mass.) doubled and scored on an error.

The Chargers retook the lead with a run in the fourth, but Worcester answered right away, as pinch hitter Lauren Dube (Leominster, Mass.) scored on an error, two ground outs and a passed ball.

Naraylee Baez (Northborough, Mass.) led off the fifth with a single to center field and eventually gave the Lancers the lead when she scored on an error before Bartlett drove in Emma Lanpher (Charlton, Mass.) to make it 4-2.

Bartlett gave up three hits in the seventh, but got a swinging strikeout to close out the win.

Game 1: Keene State 5, Worcester State 4

The Lancers took a 4-0 lead against undefeated Keene State (5-0), but watched the Owls score four in the fifth and the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Lauren Dube (Leominster, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs with a double in the top of the first and Brynna Meeker (Northwood, N.H.) had two hits and an RBI groundout to plate Ally Tocman (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in the second.

Meeker crossed the plate again in the fifth on a double to left center by Lanpher to make it a 4-0 advantage.

Mia Ferry (Wallingford, Conn.) went 3-3 for the Owls and her infield single tied the game at four to cap their fifth inning rally. Sara Cote (Lisbon, Conn.) had a big day at the plate as well, going 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, along with a stolen base. Molly Murray (Gorham, Maine) also had two hits and scored in the fifth inning rally.

Ferry was the starter for the Owls and she went four innings of three-run ball. Lilah Demmy (Wayne, Pa.) improved to 3-0 by pitching the final two scoreless innings, with a strikeout and no walks.

Jen Thorburn (Groton, Mass.) took the loss for the Lancers after giving up five runs in five innings. She struck out three and walked three, while allowing eight hits.
