Worcester State Softball Announces 2023 Schedule

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Softball team, led by fifth year Head Coach Keri Bianchini, have announced their 2023 slate of games for the Spring season. The Lancers look to continue their success from their MASCAC Semifinals appearance last year with a depth of new and returning talent on top of a demanding schedule aimed at getting the team ready for a successful post season run. The team is led by the return of Emily Bartlett, MASCAC Pitcher of the Year, and Emma Lanpher, the MASCAC Rookie of the Year, along with a seasoned squad of veterans.

“We have been excited and preparing for this season for many months and look forward to picking up where we left off last spring” says Bianchini. “This year's team is a great combination of returning players and incoming freshmen who are anxious to take the field in Myrtle Beach, and beyond, this season.”

The Blue and Gold begin their season the first week of March when they travel out west to take on Springfield College in a double header battle before the team travels down to North Myrtle Beach to compete in a 10-game stretch at the Fast Pitch Dreams Tournament in North Myrtle Beach from March 11th-17th. The Lancers are scheduled to face off against the University of Me.-Farmington to start their Spring Break trip on March 11th followed up by Spalding later that day. Worcester State is quick to return to taking on Susquehanna and Wilson on March 12th. After a day of rest, the team is back on the field to dual it out with Muhlenberg and Franciscan on the 14th and Keene St. and Aloysius the following day. The Lancers will close out the trip to South Carolina on the 17th, going up against Castleton and Albertus Magnus. The remainder of March has the Lancers back in Massachusetts taking on a swing of double headers. First up is a trip to Lasell on March 21st, followed by their home opener on March 28th versus Clark University before wrapping up March play on the 29th with a trip to WPI.

April will see the Lancers start of three double headers at home when they host the MASCAC opener on the 1st versus Salem St, followed by two non-conference battles between Anna Maria and Gordon on the 3rd and 4th. The MASCAC slate of games begin in earnest when Worcester travels to MCLA on the 7th, followed by Westfield and Fitchburg State on the 15th and 17th. The conference road trips are broken up on the 13th with an out of state jaunt to Rhode Island College. The Lancers return home to host Nichols in a two-game set on April 20th before travelling to Framingham State on April 22nd. The final two games of the regular season will see the softball squad closing out MASCAC play at home, hosting Bridgewater State on April 29th and Mass. Maritime on May 6th, which is currently set as senior day for the program.

"I am very excited for this upcoming season,” states captain Jennifer Thorburn. “I think that we had a really great season last year and I am confident that this year we will go even further than we did last year. We have a lot of really great first year players along with a fantastic crew of returners, and we have our eyes set on winning the MASCAC tournament and I'm excited to get on the field with these ladies and work toward that goal."
