
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Softball team had one named to the MASCAC weekly awards in the opening week of the season. First year Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA) was named the Rookie of the Week by the MASCAC. The Softball team went 4-0 on the week and extended their winning streak to six.
Gasbarro Batted .533 (8-15) with a double, two triples, home run, four RBI, six runs scored, 1.067 slugging percentage and .533 on-base percentage in the 4-0 week for the Lancers. Was 3-for-8 with a triple, home run, two RBI and three runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of MCLA. Was 5-for-7 with a double, triple, two RBI and two runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Anna Maria.
Teammates sophomore Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, MA) and senior Jen Thorburn (Groton, MA) each were named to the MASCAC honor roll. Koziol batted .600 (9-15) with a double, home run, six RBI, four runs scored with a .867 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage in a 4-0 for the Lancers. Went 4-for-8 with two RBI and a run scored in the doubleheader sweep of MCLA. Was 5-for-7 with a double, home run, four RBI and three runs scored in the doubleheader sweep of Anna Maria. Thorburn Went 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA, four hits allowed seven strikeouts and two earned runs over two appearances for the Lancers. Threw a complete game win, allowing two hits, one earned run and two strikeouts in the 9-1 win over MCLA.
The Lancers are back in action on Thursday when they travel down to Rhode Island College for a two game set. First pitch is scheduled for 4pm.
