
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Softball team has seven named to this years MASCAC All-Conference teams voted on by the association's coaches. The selections were led by first team honorees senior Jen Thorburn (Groton, MA), sophomore Abigail Koziol (Luneburg, MA) and first year Bella Gasbarro (Leominster, MA).
Earning a spot on the 2023 MASCAC First Team with Thorburn, Koziol and Gasbarro are Bridgewater State's Amelia Blake, and Olivia Silva, Framingham State's Gwendolyn Carpenter, Camille Desrochers, Brooke Grassia and Ally Moran, Mass Maritime's Ab'c'de Patane, Salem State's Sydney Rodrigues, Westfield State's Mia Alfonso and Jordyn Lummus.
Named to the MASCAC second team was senior Jacqui Schwalm (Billerica, MA), juniors Lauren Dube (Leominster, MA) and Emily Bartlett (Lowell, MA) and sophomore Emma Lanpher (Charlton, MA). Joining them on the second team are Bridgewater State's Janet Jolly, Fitchburg State's Sarah Cahill and Julia Gauvin, Framingham State's Talia Duca, Angelina Lynch and Makayla Rooney, Mass. Maritime's Emma Donlan and Westfield State's Christina Ciampa and Stephanie Scoville.
On the mound, Thorburn concluded her season with 10 wins and 7 losses, throwing 10 complete games on the season. She allowed just 34 earned runs on 100 hits, striking out 80 for a 2.31 ERA on the season. Koziol concluded her season with a perfect 100% on fielding this season, recording no errors from behind the plate to add to her 18 runs, 7 doubles and a home run recorded on the season. Koziol concluded the season with a .333 batting average for the Lancers. Gasbarro led the Lancers with a .409 batting average with 22 runs on 56 hits, recording 13 doubles, four triples and three homeruns over her first year. Gasbarro struck out only 10 times all season to record a .427 on base percentage in her 137 at bats.
Worcester State concluded their season in the MASCAC Semifinals versus Westfield State to end the season at 25-18, 9-5 in the MASCAC.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's first Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as a football affiliate member in 2013 and Castleton in 2024. Dean College, Eastern Nazarene College, Elms College, Mitchell College, and Springfield College joined as men's golf affiliates in 2019 and New England College in 2021.
