Title: Volunteer Assistant Coach

Rachel (Bishop) Economos '92 enters her third season as an assistant softball coach at Worcester State. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the club as she was a Lancer Hall of Fame pitcher and has run a pitching clinic at the university for the past 20 years.

This past season, Coach Economos tutored her first MASCAC Pitcher of the Year and she helped guide the Blue and Gold to the 2015 MASCAC Regular Season championship.

Coach Economos was a two-time All-New England selection and the 1992 MASCAC Player of the Year who helped lead the Lancers to a share of the 1991 MASCAC Regular Season title and the 1991 ECAC North Championship. Coming out of the losers bracket, she tossed an amazing three complete games in one day to help the Blue and Gold capture the ECAC crown capped off by a 5-0 victory over Binghamton State.

She is still the all-time leader in winning percentage (57-20 - .740) while Coach Economos is second in the record book in innings (512.2), games started (82), wins (57), earned run average (1.00), shutouts (19), no hitters (4) and strikeouts (552).

When she walked away from Worcester State in 1992, Coach Economos was the all-time leader in punchouts and held the single-game record, fanning 18 batters in a one-hit win over UMaine Presque-Isle. Coach Economos was inducted into the Lancer Hall of Fame Class of 1997.

Coach Economos currently is a fourth grade teacher for the Worcester Public School system and she lives in the city with her husband George and three children: Stephen, Nicholas and Melina.
