Buzzards Bay, MA --- Sophomore guard Kaleigh
Charette has been selected to the 2009-10 Women’s
Basketball All-Conference second team as announced by league
publicist Jim Seavey after the leagues coaches voted earlier this
week.
Charette, a product of Fairhaven, MA, leads the Lancers in scoring
(10.4 PPG), total scoring (271), steals (45), total offensive
rebounds (76) while she is third rebounding (5.5 RPG) and total
rebounding (143).
As of this past week, Charette’s averages in scoring and
rebounding per game are 11th and 17th, respectively in the MASCAC
while she is also eighth in total steals and11th in field goal
percentage (.380).
Charette, who has gone to the free throw line 52 more times than
any other teammate, is shooting 71.6 percent on the season from the
charity stripe (73-for-102). Charette had an eight game stretch in
which she canned 23 consecutive free throws – including a
12-for-12 performance against Trinity on December 8 – to
eclipse the 18-year record held by WSC Hall of Famer Carrie
Gladden. Charette is sixth in the conference in free-throw
percentage.
Salem State senior Danielle Jenkins (Marlboro, MA) was named the
conference Player of the Year while MCLA’s Lucy Tremblay
earned Rookie of the Year accolades. Bridgewater State head coach
Bridgett Casey was the MASCAC Coach of the Year.
The Worcester State, the third-seed in the MASCAC Tournament,
travels to Bridgewater State to face off against #2 Salem State on
Friday in the conference semifinals at 8 PM. Should the Lancers
advance to the championship, they will take on the winner of the
BSC-MCLA contest which tips-off at 6.
