O'Keefe Helps Women's Basketball Even Up Record In Win Over Becker

 

Worcester, MA --- Senior Meaghan O'Keefe (Warren, MA) had a game-high 20 points and sophomore Kelli McPherson (Mansfield, MA) chipped in with 14 of her own to help guide Worcester State to a 72-48 win over Becker in the consolation game of the Worcester City Women's Basketball Tournament hosted by WPI on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Lances improve to 1-1 on the young season while the Hawks drop to 0-2.

The Lancers raced out to an early 13-0 led by O'Keefe who netted 10 of her 14 first half points in that spurt. Becker got on the board when junior Chelsea Joubert (Westboro, MA) sank two free throws stopping the Worcester State run.

Worcester State saw its largest lead of the first half grow to 25 and only had its lead shrink to single digits one time in the first half.  The Lancers shot 54.5 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Hawks 24-10, taking a 42-24 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

Becker saw three of its players in double figures led by third-year Tatiana Mojica (Worcester, MA) with 18, Joubert with 14, and classmate Haley Ooms (Valatie, NY) with 11. Mojica also had a team high eight rebounds while junior Michelle Griczika (Barre, MA) and teammate Tarisha Renaud (Worcester, MA) each gobbled up five.

Junior Meaghan Burns (West Brookfield, MA) and sophomore Meghan Keohane (Mansfield, MA) both added nine points for the Lancers while senior Kara Rogers (Lowell, MA) and third-year Veronica Norman (Brooklyn, CT) each contributed with a game-high five assists.

For their strong play this weekend, Worcester State's O'Keefe and Becker's Mojica were selected to the All-Tournament team. 

Worcester State returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to UMass Dartmouth at 6 PM. Becker takes to the court again on Monday it heads to MCLA for a 5:30 PM contest.
