Perez Selected MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

Westfield, MA --- Freshman Nani Perez (Worcester, MA/Holy Name) has been named MASCAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for her outstanding contributions in a 2-0 week for Worcester State.

Perez averaged 8.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds which included 11 points and seven helpers in a 74-50 victory over Framingham State, which helped seal up the third-seed in this week's league tournament.

Through 25 games of her freshman season, Perez is fourth on the Lancers in scoring with 6.1 points per game, 4.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds. With an eye-popping 116 assists, she has doled out the eighth-most helpers in a single-season, just one off the sum that former standout Kathy Ward dished in her sophomore campaign (2001-02).

Perez is second in the MASCAC in average and total assists while she is also ninth in free throw percentage (.692) and 14th in total free throws (54), for the second highest sum on the squad.

Her MASCAC weekly accolade marks the third time this year she has been recognized by the conference with laurels.

The Lancers (16-9, 7-4 MASCAC) will play sixth-seeded Salem State on Tuesday in a 7 PM matchup at Clark. The winner of the quarterfinal matchup heads to second-seeded Bridgewater State for a 5:30 PM tip-off.
