Spotlight: Erin Gallella and the Final Season and What Comes Next?

Thursday, December 1,  Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.) started her 60th career game for the Women's Basketball team at Worcester State. Since her freshman season, back in 2019-2020, Gallella has started all but two games for the Lancers, and has established herself as a standout player in the MASCAC.

Gallella, in her final season, is adding to her already impressive resume. Career highs in points-per-game, three-point percentage and minutes-per-game highlight her hot start. "I think just going out every game and giving it my all because anything could happen to end my season," Gallella reasons is the secret to her great start to the season.

Though this current campaign will be her last time playing collegiately, Erin has no intention of stepping away from the game. As an education major, the avenue for coaching is wide open. "I'd love to coach," said Gallella. "Whether it be high school or younger kids I think coaching would be cool." As a captain for this year's Lancers, leadership experience is most definitely an attribute that Gallella has in her back pocket.

Gallella describes her team as "very close. So the team dynamic is just great this year." No surprise considering the entire team, save a lone freshman, has legitimate college experience. The team dynamic is so great, that Erin commented on how captains normally have to deal with things that aren't always fun, "but usually that doesn't happen because we're such a good team and we all like each other."

Alongside her twin sister Elizabeth, Gallella will look to finish off her stellar collegiate career with a cherry on top. "The end goal would be a MASCAC championship," Erin manifests. "That'd be awesome". A 4-5 record on the young season combined with an experienced squad just may result in that dream coming to fruition in Gallella's final go-around.

Coming off a season high 22-point performance against MIT and a strong showing against nationally ranked Springfield on Tuesday, Gallella and her squad will continue their run at a title this coming Saturday at Trinity College.
