Worcester State Women’s Basketball Releases 2023-24 Schedule

Worcester, MA – The Worcester State Women’s Basketball, headed by Karen Tessmer in her 30th season with the program, have announced their 2023-24 schedule. The Lancers finished last season 11-16 (6-6 in the MASCAC) falling in the MASCAC Semifinals to eventual Champions Bridgewater State. Worcester State will look to break their semifinal curse behind several fresh faces for the program and the leadership of senior starters Katie Hurynowicz and Nyah Thomas and a cast of skilled returners. The MASCAC battle is set to begin for the Lancers on January 6th with a trip to Fitchburg State.

“We cannot wait for the season to begin” says Tessmer. “We are excited about our team’s athleticism, size and speed and have high expectations for our talented newcomers to complement our strong returning core. We have a competitive schedule planned before our conference games against various opponents throughout New England who will help prepare us for MASCAC play.”

The Lancers begin their season during the evening of NCAA kickoff basketball day, when they take on Eastern Nazarene at 8pm to begin their season at home before hosting this year’s Worcester City Tournament on the 10th and 11th. The Worcester City Tournament will see Worcester, WPI, Clark and Anna Maria all vying for the coveted title of City Tournament Champion. The Lancers will then take their first of two team trips this season, heading down to Northern Virginia and Marymount University for the Pablo Coto Tournament November 17th-18th, before returning to New England for trips to Keene State, November 21st, New England College, November 28th, Wellesley, December 2nd, and Springfield on December 5th. The Lancers return home for one last home game before winter break, hosting Salve Regina on December 9th. Worcester State will then travel on their second trip of the season, down to Atlanta, GA to face off against Piedmont University on December 30th and to close out 2023 with a New Years Eve matchup with Oglethorpe University.

The 2024 season begins with a MASCAC matchup between Fitchburg State and the Lancers on January 6th in Fitchburg, before Worcester State returns for a three-game home stand beginning with the January 8th, Annual Math Madness Game against Trinity University, that brings together the local public school elementary students for a day filled with fun, mathematics, and basketball. The following two home games will see Westfield State in Worcester on the 10th, while the MASCAC semi final rematch round one is scheduled for the 13th. The Lancers are then on the road versus Salem State, January 17th, and Framingham State, January 20th, before their return home on January 24th to face-off with MCLA.

January rolls into February as the final six games roll in for Worcester, which will see the team begin their MASCAC swing again, this time at home on the 31st versus Fitchburg State before traveling to Westfield on February 3rd and Bridgewater on the 7th. The Blue and Gold will return to Brissette on February 10th to meet Salem State before celebrating their seniors on senior night February 14th versus Framingham State. The regular season ends on the 17th when Worcester State journeys to MCLA.
