Lee and Gates named ECHA Players of the Week

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s Ice Hockey team had two named to the ECHA Player of the Week after their 1-1 week that saw them square up against #14 Utica Friday night before traveling to take on Southern Maine on Saturday. The Lancers fell 2-1 in overtime on Friday night, before rebounding for a 6-3 victory over Southern Maine.

Senior Amber Lee (Fairlawn, NJ) was named the ECHA Player of the week after her 40 save performance against the nationally ranked Utica. Lee stopped 40 of 42 shots in the game for a .952 save percentage, garnering a 1.92 GAA on the night. Lee has recorded 313 saves thus far this season, with a save percentage of .937% and a 2.22 GAA.

First year Caroline Gates (Natick, MA) scored the game winning goal on Saturday afternoon in the 6-3 victory over the University of Southern Maine. Gates capitalized during the power play to navigate the puck around the Huskies goalkeeper for the 6th goal of the afternoon. The goal was the first of the season for Gates, who now has a goal and assist on the season.

The Lancers end the week 1-1 and play next tonight, January 10, with a rematch against Southern Maine. Puck drop is scheduled for 3pm.
