Puumala and Bateman Named ECHA Players of the Week

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Ice Hockey team had two named ECHA Player of the Week after a double win week that saw them come away with a 3-1 win over Salem St and grab an additional 5-1 victory over Nichols College on the week. The Lancers closed out 2022 with dominant victories over the Bison, their second matchup and victory over their opponents this season and the Vikings.

Senior forward Katie Puumala (Framingham, MA) recorded a season high two goals and one assist in the Nichols victory. Puumala notched the opening goal in the game, with a further insurance goal in the second period. She recorded an assist off a Conway power play goal in the third period to solidify the victory for the Lancers. Puumala know has a total 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points in her career as a Lancer. Her combined career stats from her career at Becker College, where she played her first two years, has her tally at 30 goals and 46 assists for 76 points.

First year Jennarae Bateman (Forest Lake, MN) has been named the ECHA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after recording an assist on the game tying goal versus Salem St. Bateman then stepped up her performance the following day when she scored the game winning second goal in the 5-1 victory over the Bison. Bateman now has two goals and three assist at the midpoint of her first season.

The Lancers closed out 2022 with two solid wins and momentum carrying them back into action on January 6 when they host Utica College at 7:20pm.
