Lancers Falls To UMass Dartmouth On Senior Night, 13-9

Worcester, MA --- The Worcester State College women's lacrosse team fell on Senior Night to the visiting Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference lacrosse match by the final score of, 13-9.  The loss drops the hosts to 8-4 on the season while UMass Dartmouth improves to 7-4.

UMass Dartmouth controlled the majority of the first half.  After Worcester State senior Linh Nguyen (Rockland, MA) gave the Lancers an early, 1-0, lead on a free position goal, the Corsairs rattled off 6 straight goals to take a, 6-1, lead.  Marie Spang (Wakefield, MA) and Allison Trearchis (Tyngsboro, MA) each netted a pair of goals to go along with single strikes by senior Susie Nearhoof (Frederick, MD) and Larissa Basque (Plainville, MA).  Worcester State's Karla Rotondi (Tewksbury, MA) scored with 3:15 remaining in the half to get the Lancers to within four goals, 6-2, at the break.

After falling behind, 9-4, early in the second half Worcester State fought their way back in scoring three straight goals to get within a pair.  Scores by Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA), Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) and Angela Johnson (Ashby, MA) reset the score at, 9-7, with 6 minutes remaining in the game.  But the Corsairs answered back with three of their own to put the match out of reach. Nearhoof, Spang and Trearchis all scored within a 1:28 span to lead the visitors to the win.   Worcester State would add a pair of late goals and Trearchis would add her fifth score of the game to round out the scoring on the night.

Trearchis led all scorers with 5 goals.  Spang followed with 4 goals and an assist to go along with Nearhoof's hat trick and assist.  Worcester State was paced by junior Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) who scored a pair of goals and had 4 assists.  Jamieson chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist.

Worcester State keeper Lyndsey Nunes (W. Springfield, MA) made 11 saves on the night while counterpart Erin Doherty (W. Newbury, MA) stopped 13 shots.

Worcester State will head to Framingham State on Saturday as they close out their regular season.  UMass Dartmouth will host Western Connecticut on Saturday
