Feeley Helps Lancers Down Rhode Island College, 15-9

Worcester, MA --- Senior attacker Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) tallied six goals and two assists to help propel Worcester State to a 15-9 victory over Rhode Island College this evening at Coughlin Memorial Stadium in non conference women's lacrosse action.

The Lancers were also paced by junior Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) who notched four goals and an assist while third-year Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) sent in a pair of goals while also recording two helpers. Cosenza picked up a game-high six ground balls while senior Kim Cosenza (Fitchburg, MA) forced two turnovers.

Freshman Nichole Drolet (Somersworth, NH) led the charge for the Anchorwomen as all five of her attempts went into the net for goals. First-year Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI) also recorded two goals while classmate Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI) chipped in with a team-best five ground balls.

Worcester State went up 3-1 at 25:40 before RIC scored four of the next five shots over the next nine minutes of play- which included three from Drolet - to make the score 5-4 in favor of the visitors. After Feeley scored a pair of goals 2½ minutes apart Drolet scored a goal to knot the game up 6-6 with 8:38 remaining in the period.

With the game gridlocked over the next eight minutes, Childs finally broke the tie scoring with 22 seconds left on the clock to send both teams off the field for the intermission.

After the second half started WSC flipped a switch and rattled off four straight goals in a span of seven minutes to take a 10-7 lead.  Two free position shots sandwiched a Feeley goal to bring the Anchorwomen within two (11-9), but the Lancers closed out the contest with four unanswered goals as they held RIC scoreless for the last 12½ minutes of play.

Freshman goakeeper Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) earned her second victory between the pipes for the Blue and Gold as she finished with one save. Sophomore Hilary Switzer (Woonsocket, RI) took the loss as she made nine stops for RIC.

Worcester State ended the contest with a 35-13 shooting advantage which included a 20-3 edge in the second half. The Lancers controlled the turf as they had a 29-18 ground ball margin.

Both teams will play conference opponents on Saturday. WSC will face-off against Fitchburg State at 3 PM in a NEWLA contest while the Anchorwomen will host Western Connecticut at 1 PM.
