Lancers Rally for Come-From-Behind Victory in 16-13 Win Over Corsairs

North Dartmouth, MA --- Visiting Worcester State outscored the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's lacrosse team in the second half, 12-3, and came from behind to defeat the Corsairs, 16-13, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Thursday evening.

Freshman midfielder Allison O'Rourke (Weymouth, MA) gave the Corsairs their final lead of the game when she scored with 7:53 remaining. But Shannon Feeley (West Springfield, MA)scored twice within a minute and 10 seconds, putting the Lancers ahead, 14-13 with 6:15 remaining. Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA) and Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) scored to account for the final margin.

WSC took a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes, but UMass Dartmouth scored the next 10 goals to take a 10-4 lead at halftime. O'Rourke scored five times in the first half, scoring the final two goals before halftime with 2:31 and 17 seconds remaining. Junior midfielder Kara Basque (Plainville, MA) scored 22 seconds into the second half, but the Lancers scored nine of eight of the next nine goals to tie the game at 12-12 with 9:07 left.

O'Rourke had six goals for the Corsairs, sophomore attacker Rachel Carlucci (Franklin, MA) added three, and junior attacker Gillian Carey (Waltham, MA) added two. Feeley had five goals for WSC, with junior Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) and Rosborough each scoring three times.

The Lancers out shot the Corsairs, 39-31. UMass Dartmouth junior goalkeeper Liz Miller (Littleton, MA) and the Lancers' freshman Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) each made 13 saves.

The Corsairs dropped to 0-6 with the defeat, while the Lancers improved to 4-1 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Framingham State Saturday. Worcester State will visit Westfield State Saturday.
