Chicopee, MA --- First-year attack Shawna Strazzere (Billerica, MA) has been honored as this week's NEWLA Rookie of the Week for her standout performance in a loss to Husson this past weekend.
Strazzere netted a hat-trick with an assist in her first collegiate start as Worcester State fell to the Eagles, 16-14 in their season-opener.
Strazzere comes off an outstanding fall where she led the volleyball team with 552 assists while she also posted totals of 102 digs (5th most on team), 88 kills and 14 aces. Strazzere's average helpers were the third-highest total (6.27) since stats were first recorded in 2003 as her total and average was the fourth-best in the MASCAC.
The Lancers will take both on Rhode Island College on Tuesday and Framingham State on Friday in the next week at home at 7 PM.
