Plymouth State Defeats Women's Lacrosse, 19-7

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, NH) netted a career-best eight points with seven goals and one assist to help pace Plymouth State to a 19-7 triumph over Worcester State in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Coughlin Field.

The Panthers (4-2) were also led by freshman Emily Buckle (Danbury, CT) who recorded a hat-trick while senior Kathryn Rodgers (Wolfeboro, NH), third-year Jenn Foley (Tewksbury, MA) and sophomore Marie Lander (Ossipee, NH) all tallied two markers apiece. Rogers also finished with a trio of draw controls for PSU.

Senior Carley MacIntyre (Townsend, MA) and junior Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA) both registered two goals each to help lead the Lancers (0-6) while they combined for seven ground balls and four draw controls. Senior Karen Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) had a team-high three draws as Clifford sparked the defensive effort with a pair of caused turnovers.

Freshman Lorin Field (Hollis, NH) earned the win between the pipes for Plymouth State as she made three stops and picked up an equal number of ground balls. Field was relieved by junior Ally Baribault (Middle Haddam, CT) and first-year Steph Paynter (Danbury, CT) who both combined for five saves in the second period.

Junior Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) turned aside seven shots in the defeat as she ended the contest with two ground balls.

Plymouth State opened with the 6-0 lead, ten minutes into the contest before Clifford stopped the streak with a marker on a free position shot at 12:03. Swanson would then help the Panthers take control of the match by scoring four of PSU's next six goals to lead at the intermission, 13-2.

After the visitors notched three consecutive goals to start off the second half, Worcester State responded with three of their own by Clifford, MacIntyre and senior Colleen Manning (Plainville, MA) to trail 16-5 with 14:30 left to play. But the Panthers would put the game away with three straight from Buckle, Lander and Swanson.

Plymouth State dominated shots (22-6) and draw controls (10-5) in the first half, but in the second stanza Worcester State had the 11-9 edge in shots and both teams were even in draws (6-6).  The Panthers controlled the ground by final tally of 16-11.

The Lancers were 3-for-9 in free possessions (1-for-6 in first half) while PSU missed their only attempt of the game in the opening period.

Both teams return to conference play this weekend. Worcester State will try to get its first win of the season against Becker on Saturday at noon while Plymouth State will travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 6 o'clock road game on Friday.
