Fitchburg State Defeats Women's Lacrosse In NEWLA Battle

Fitchburg, MA --- The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team registered its 11th victory of the season, downing NEWLA rival Worcester State University, 21-4 at Elliot Field this afternoon.

Junior Kelly Finamore (Weymouth, MA) led the Falcons offensively, totaling a game-high eight points with three goals and five assists, while classmate Amanda Burns (Weymouth, MA) chipped in with seven points on six scores and one dish. Junior Jill Shaner (Arlington, MA) was also solid, hitting for seven points on five markers and two helpers, while senior Connie Perry (Reading, MA) added three goals and one assist.

Fitchburg State cruised to its fourth NEWLA victory, scoring 11 goals in the first half to take a commanding 11-2 advantage into the break. Shaner and Burns sparked the Falcons first half efforts with three goals in the period, while Perry added a pair of markers on the offensive front. Senior Carley MacIntyre (Townsend, MA) and junior Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA) scored the lone goals for the Lancers in the frame.

In the second half, Fitchburg State maintained its offensive momentum, touching the back of the net nine times to secure the key conference victory. Burns continued her hot shooting, notching three goals in the half, while Finamore and Perry each added a pair of markers. Clifford connected again for the Lancers midway through the period, while MacIntyre rounded out the Worcester State scoring with 1:23 remaining in the game.

Fitchburg State dominated the offensive front, posting a 48-20 advantage in shots and a 16-11 margin in draw controls. In net, freshman Dylana Drolette (Burlington, VT) was strong for the Falcons, posting 11 saves for her 11th victory of the year, while junior Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) had a career day, totaling a career-best 20 saves (15 first half) for the Lancers in the setback.

Clifford would finish with a team-high seven ground balls for Worcester State while senior Karen Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) added four. Clifford and junior Rhetta Guimond (Royalston, MA) also forced a pair of miscues. Senior Karla Rotondi (Tewksbury, MA) finished with a trio of draws.

Fitchburg State (11-2, 4-2 NEWLA) will be back in action next Saturday as it travels to Becker College at 1 PM Worcester State (2-9, 2-4 NEWLA) will visit Castleton State next Saturday at 1 PM.
