Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest To Castleton State In Season Finale

Castleton, VT --- Senior Liz Haggerty (Centerport, NY) scored a team-high five goals and became the fifth Spartan to register 100 for her career as Castleton State College defeated Worcester State University 18-6 in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA)
action Saturday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

Worcester State scored just 35 seconds into the contest as fourth-year Colleen Manning (Plainville, MA) scored the first of her five goals on the day. Just one minute later senior Marie Van Der Kar (Manchester, VT) evened the score, and 20 seconds later Castleton had a lead it would not relinquish on an junior Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, NY) marker.

Castleton reeled off six more before Manning got her second of the game to make it 8-2, and the Spartans answered with another 6-1 run to end the first half with a 14-3 lead. Haggerty scored three during the surge, including her 31st of the season and 100th for her career with eight seconds remaining.

Van Der Kar, Mazzola and first-year Sarah Clark (Guilford, VT) each finished with three goals, while third-year Stephanie Paproski posted four points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore Jessica Taplin (Barre, VT) added a goal and two assists and freshman Amanda Flodstrom (Stratham, NH) rounded out the scoring with a single goal.

First-year Shawna Strazzere (Billerica, MA) added a goal and an assist for the Lancers. Senior Karen Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) also picked up a team-best three ground balls to go along with a pair of forced miscues.

Senior Becki Duszak (Erieville, NY) made seven saves to pick up her third win of the season. Junior Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) stopped seven shots in the loss.

Manning finishes her career sixth on the all-time scoring list with 82 goals and 17 assists for 99 points while classmate Carley MacIntyre (Townsend, MA) ends her four years at WSU in ninth overall with 59 goals and 20 assists for 79 points.

MacIntyre also set the new school record for career draw controls with 98. Her 42 draws this season are the third-highest total.

Castleton improves to 11-4, 6-1 and will host a NEWLA Semifinal game on May 4 at a time and against an opponent still to be determined. Worcester State's season ends at 2-10, 2-6 NEWLA.
