Chicopee, MA --- Worcester State freshman Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, MA) has been honored as this week's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Rookie of the Week for her efforts in helping lead the Lancers to a 1-1 week.
Lawlor tallied nine points which included a game-best seven goals, with four ground balls and three draw controls and a forced miscue in a 16-7 triumph over Becker. She helped the Blue and Gold snap a four-game losing streak in the process.
The first-year standout has enjoyed a tremendous rookie campaign as she leads the team in goals (29), points (35) and caused turnovers (16) while she is second draw controls (31) and third in ground balls (32). In addition to being tied for seventh in the NEWLA in forced miscues she is also inside the top 20 with respective rankings of 16th in goals and draw controls, 17th in ground balls and 18th in points.
Lawlor is the first freshman to lead the team in goals since Ann Clark (2004-07) led the NCAA Division III with 84 goals in 2004. Clark was recently featured by NCAA.com for scoring 14 goals in one game to break the single-contest mark this week against Lasell with 14 markers.
The Lancers (2-11, 2-4 NEWLA) finish of their season with Elms at home at 7 PM on "Senior Day" before heading to Westfield State on Friday for a 7 o'clock matchup against the Owls.
