Women's Lacrosse Falls To Bridgewater State In MASCAC Opener

 

Bridgewater, MA --- Bridgewater State senior Jill Caramello (Duxbury, MA) and freshman Alexis Hadcock (East Lyme, CT) both registered six goals and one assist each to help lead the Bears to a 24-7 victory over Worcester State in MASCAC Women's Lacrosse action on Saturday night.

BSU remains unbeaten at 8-0 and 2-0 in the MASCAC while the Lancers slip to 6-2 and 0-1 in the seven-team loop.

Bridgewater State opened the contest with an 8-2 run over the games first 15 minutes and never looked back. Sophomore Riley Cachelin (Westwood, MA) and first-year Lauren Geary (Hull, MA) both chipped in with two goals apiece in the spurt.

After Worcester State freshman Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) potted a marker at the 14:33 mark, sophomore Molly Killday (Westford, MA) potted a pair of tallies in a 3-1 surge to help the visitors trail 9-5 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

But the Bears took advantage of several WSU miscues and missed shots on the net by finishing off the first half with a 6-0 skien for the 15-5 score at the intermission.

In the first stanza, the hosts only outshot the Lancers, 22-12, while the Blue and Gold missed all three of their free position attempts.

Bridgewater State ended contest with a 9-2 run for the final score. Junior Taylor Clancy (Braintree, MA) sent in three of her six markers and Carmello had a pair of goals to highlight the scoring for the Bears.

In addition to leading in shots 41-18, Geary recorded six ground balls and a school-record 20 draw controls to help the Bears earn the 26-7 edge in draws. Clancy and senior Michelle Navoni (Mansfield, MA) also combined for 11 ground balls.

Kilday notched a hat-trick while Chase added two goals. Second-year Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, MA) dished out a pair of assists, picked up four ground balls and she forced a pair of miscues.

Freshman Mackenzie Callini (W. Springfield, MA) and sophomore Sam Erwin (Attleboro, MA) each amassed four and three ground balls, respectively.

Bridgewater State first-year Chandler Ross (Wrentham, MA) stopped 10 shots on net in the triumph while senior Alex Chisholm (N. Brookfeild, MA) collected nine saves in the setback.

Both squads entertain non-conference opponents on in 7 PM matchups. Worcester State hosts Rhode Island College on Thursday while the Bears take on Salve Regina.
