Connors, Kilday Lead Women's Lacrosse Past Mass Maritime

 

Worcester, MA --- Freshman Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) and sophomore Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) both collected six points apiece as they helped lead Worcester State to a 17-2 triumph over Mass Maritime this afternoon in MASCAC women's lacrosse action.

For the Lancers (9-4, 2-2 MASCAC), Connors recorded three goals and a trio of assists while Kilday had two markers and four helpers. Junior Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) netted a hat-trick and second-year Michelle Tully (Tewksbury, MA) pitched in with two goals and a pair of dishes.

Defensively, sophomore Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, MA) finished with four ground balls, three draws and a trio of caused turnovers as Connors recorded three ground balls and two forced miscues.

For the Buccaneers (2-9, 1-3 MASCAC), freshman Molly Smith (Westwood, MA) assisted senior Shelagh Hogan (N. Andover, MA) for both of their goals. Freshman Janine Prokscha (Washington, CT) and sophomore Laura Marin (W. Yarmouth, MA) combined for seven draws and Prokscha had a team-best four ground balls.

The Blue and Gold opened with a five goal outburst five minutes into the game before Hogan broke the streak at the 23:07 mark for Mass Maritime.

The Lancers then ended the stanza with a 7-0 run for the 13-1 score at the intermission, with O'Brien scoring twice and Connors dishing out two of her helpers.

Five different Worcester State players helped the hosts outscore their opponents, 5-1, in the second period.

With her two tallies this afternoon, senior Daryl Powell (Beverly, MA) becomes the 17th member of the 50 point club with 31 goals and 19 assists in her career.

Kilday becomes the 18th member of the exclusive 50-point club with a team-leading 51 points to her credit. She joins former standout Ann Clark as the only other women's lacrosse player to register 50-plus points in their first season of play.

Fourth-year Alex Chisholm (N. Brookfield, MA) collected seven saves in the win while sophomore Deb Langley (Abington, MA) stopped seven shots in the setback.

Both squads take on MASCAC opponents on Wednesday evening. Worcester State travels to Salem State for a 6 o'clock meeting while Bridgewater State entertains the Buccaneers at 7 PM.
