Women’s Lacrosse Hosts 4th Annual Clinic with Worcester City Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – This past week the Worcester State University women's lacrosse team hosted the Worcester City Team in their 4th Annual Clinic on campus at John F. Coughlin Memorial Field.

The Worcester State women's lacrosse team setup seven different stations for the girls to take part in. The stations included instruction on ground balls, passing, draw controls, along with a "fit fun" station, and defensive tactics segment.

In addition to the stations, Worcester State put on a 7-versus-7 "settled" scrimmage for the girls to watch, which something that most lacrosse players are unexposed to at the high school level.

The girls concluded the day with a scrimmage between each other, with Worcester State women's lacrosse players coaching them. "It was pretty fun and intense," commented Worcester State Women's Lacrosse Associate Head Coach, Kelly Downs. "The game ended in a tie."

"For the past four years it has been a great part of our season and the girls look forward to it every time" stated Worcester City Team's Assistant Coach, Courtney McKernan. "It is nice that we have established a relationship with the Worcester State Women's Lacrosse Team and that our student-athletes from Doherty, South, Burncoat and WTHS have the opportunity to learn new skills from college athletes."

""We love the connection we have with the Worcester City team," added Downs. "It is great for our girls to have a day to teach the game they love. We will continue to host them on our campus and may even add a newly formed lacrosse program of Notre Dame next season."
