Worcester, MA- On Wednesday evening, the Worcester State Women's Lacrosse team opened their 2023 season, taking on Smith College in a competitive non-conference battle. The Lancers were defeated by the Pioneers 15-7 in a tightly contested battle.

Heading into the game, Worcester State's main goal was to begin the new season on a positive note. For the first five minutes of the game, the Lancers prevented Smith College from sending shot attempt at Worcester State goalie first year Andrea Rennie (Marlborough, Mass.). At the 9:17 mark of the opening period, first year Mckayla Fisher (Peabody, Mass.) was able to not only score the Lancer's first goal of the season but put her team up 1-0 on the scoreboard. A minute later, Smith College responded when Sadie Tachider made a nice spin move in front of Rennie to tie the score at 1-1. Smith College continued to dominate the middle portion of the first period when Tatum Galuski found the back of the net to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.
