Lancers drop one at home to Golden Bears

Worcester, Mass. - The Lancers returned home from Hilton Head Tuesday evening for a matchup against Western New England in non-conference action at Coughlin Memorial Field. Unfortunately Worcester State was unable to comeback from their deficit and ultimately fell to the Golden Bears.

 

FINAL SCORE: Worcester St 7, Western NE 17

 

The first half saw Western New England take control early, with three goals in the first five minutes of play, starting with a free position shot by Mia Celentano and followed by two successful shots on net by Ally Ferraro and Kylie Buchanan. 

 

With the Golden Bears up 4-0, Worcester State got themselves on the board by first-year midfielder Cailey Ryan (Acton, Mass.) to open the scoring for the Lancers. Worcester would then see two goals from senior Shae Jarvis (Auburn, Mass.) and from graduate Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) The Lancers continued to fight back, however the Golden Bears weren't slowing down. The first half ended with Western New England up 13-5. 

 

The second began with the Golden Bears extending their lead, followed by a series of shots and saves on both sides of the field that lasted a great portion of the third quarter, before Western New England found the net once more as the third quarter came to a close. Worcester's offense wouldn't give up, as goals from Conway and senior Emily Pavoni (Granby, Mass.) contributed to their efforts to lower the deficit. However, the game ultimately went Western New Engald's way as Worcester were unable to add to their tally before the clock hit zero. 

 

Clare Conway led the team with three goals while Shea Jarvis recorded a team best seven shots. For the Golden Bears, Mia Celentano led with four goals and also six shots. 

 

In goal, senior Savanna Rosado (Milford, Mass.) recorded eighteen saves on 35 shots, while Western New England's Faith Graveline saved seven shots out of twelve in 45 minutes of action and Emily Lake recorded two saves on four shots in the fourth quarter.

 

This brings Worcester State to a 2-3 record on the season, while Western New England improves to 4-3.
