Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Erin Doherty (Uxbridge, MA) tallied two saves and the Worcester State defense held MIT to just five shots to help lead the Lancers over the Engineers, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The Blue and Gold improve their record to 2-0-1 while the Scarlet and Gray slip to 1-2.
With the score gridlocked at 0-0 for nearly 65 minutes of play, senior Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA) broke the tie on a cross from classmate Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA). After taking the lead, the Lancers would allow only one more shot for the rest of the game. Beaudet and Amanda Santos (Milford, MA) each led WSC with four shots.
The Lancers enjoyed a 15-5 shot advantage and a 7-2 edge in corners.
Senior Stephanie Brenman (Newton, MA) notched six saves between the pipes for the Engineers.
Worcester State is off until they play cross-town rival Clark on Thursday at 6:30 while MIT visits UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday at 4 PM.
