Box Score

Plymouth, NH --- The Plymouth State University women's soccer team made a pair of first-half goals stand up Tuesday afternoon en route to a 2-1 victory over Worcester State College in non-conference action at Panther Field.

PSU scored in the eighth minute of the game and again just before halftime to take a 2-0 lead into the break.  The Lancers countered with a goal midway through the second half, but the Panthers held on to improve to 3-2-1 on the season.  WSC drops to 4-3 overall.

The first goal came at 8:05 when PSU senior Lauren Lavery (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) sent a through ball into the slot, where classmate Gianna Minervini (Point Pleasant, N.J.) collected it and knocked it past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the season. It looked like it would stay 1-0 at halftime, but sophomore Charlotte Miller (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Brady) scored an unassisted goal with just 1:27 remaining to put the hosts up 2-0 at intermission.

Worcester State cut the margin in half in the 73rd minute, as sophomore Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, Mass.) set up junior Sarah Connors (Gardner, Mass.) for her fourth goal of the season, but the Lancers could not get the tying goal.

The Panthers finished with a 17-7 advantage in shots, while corner kicks were even at five apiece.  Sophomore Stephanie Regina (Howell, N.J.) earned the win in the Panther goal by making four saves, while WSC keeper Rachael Armenti (West Boylston, Mass.) finished with eight stops.

Plymouth State returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a 1:00 PM kick-off at Panther Field against the University of Southern Maine.  Worcester State returns home to host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Saturday in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference game at 2:00 PM.
