Westfield State, Women's Soccer Tie In MASCAC Action

Westfield, MA --- Westfield State University and Worcester State University battled to a 3-3 double overtime tie in a key Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon. The Lancers are now 5-4-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the MASCAC while the Owls move to 4-7-2 and 2-1-1.

Worcester held a one-goal advantage three times, but Westfield responded each times to tie the score, including a huge goal from sophomore Kayley Miller (Ludlow, MA) off junior Madison Farrell's (Dedham, MA) direct kick with 29 seconds remaining in regulation.

Both teams had solid scoring opportunities in the overtime stanzas, with Miller delivering the biggest boot as she blasted a shot from the far right side that hit the crossbar with 3:08 remaining in the second OT.

Worcester took a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute on a goal from Kathleen Smith (Rehoboth, MA), who netted a nice cross from Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA).

The Owls knotted the score 1-1 in the 39th minute on a blast from the right side by sophomore Brittanie McGregor (Ludlow, MA).

Clifford gave the Lancers a 2-1 lead in the 48th minute, but Westfield promptly tied the score in the 50th minute on a goal from senior Jill Ranney (Southwick, MA).

The Lancers took the lead for the final time, 3-2, on Laura Maunsell's (Medford, MA) goal in the 60th minute.

Westfield State outshot the Blue and Gold, 21-12, which included a 14-6 edge in the final 65 minutes.

WSU goalie Rachael Armenti (West Boylston, MA) registered 10 saves while first-year Jess Habif (Holliston, MA) tallied a pair of her own for the Owls.

The Lancers will play their next game at home on Wednesday against Johnson & Wales at 7 PM while Westfield State takes a break until they play again next Saturday at Salem State in a matchup that kicks-off at 3 o'clock.
