Women's Soccer Powers Past Johnson & Wales, 3-1

Worcester, MA --- Freshman Megan O'Leary (Whitman, MA) along with senior teammates Sarah Connors (Gardner, MA) and Kara Rogato (N. Andover, MA) all tallied markers to help lead Worcester State to a 3-1 triumph this evening over Johnson & Wales in non conference women's soccer action.

The Lancers (6-4-3) took the early 1-0 edge in the ninth minute when Clifford made a pass that got deflected off of a Wildcat defender right to O'Leary who shot it right past off the keeper for her second tally of the season.

Nearly 10 minutes later, Johnson & Wales (6-8) equalized the score when junior Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth, MA) knocked home her team-leading 11th goal of the year off a cross from classmate Kaitlyn Gerrish (N. Stonington, CT).

But the advantage was short lived as Rogato made a nifty pass to Connors for the go-ahead marker in the 25th minute to cap off the scoring in the first stanza.

The Lancers would score their last goal in the 69th minute when senior Nikki Scott (Berlin, MA) headed a ball to Rogato, who used her own head for her first career goal.

Worcester State would hold a 12-2 lead in shots and a 6-0 margin in corners.

Senior net minder Rachael Armenti (W. Boylston, MA) earned the win for WSU as she was not called upon to make a save. Fourth-year Jennifer Hurley (Freeport, NY) and freshman Kara Collins (N. Arlington, NJ) split time between the pipes as Hurley turned aside two shots for the Wildcats.

Both squads will continue their respective conference schedules this weekend. Worcester State heads down to Mass Maritime for a Friday night game at 7 PM while Johnson & Wales travels to Rivier for a 1 o'clock contest on Sunday afternoon.
