Clifford Key's Women's Soccer To 1-0 Win Over MCLA

Worcester, MA --- Senior Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA) tallied the games only marker in the 62nd minute to help pace Worcester State to a 1-0 triumph over MCLA in MASCAC action this afternoon at Coughlin Field.

With the win the Lancers improve to 3-2-1 on the season while the Trailblazers slip to 0-5. The game was the conference opener for both squads.

Worcester State pummeled the net throughout the duration of the game as they would finish with a season-best 32 shots (14 on goal) versus three for the visitors. MCLA senior net minder Jen Wehner (Hartwick, NY) kept the hosts off the board, however, as she would make 12 stops between the pipes. The Trailblazers also had a team save in the opening half when junior Brianne Beckman (Lakeville, MA) nearly scored on an open net, but it was stopped by a defender on the ground.

Clifford would finally find the net as she would take a feed from Beckman midway through the second period. Beckman, who has five assists this season, now has a team-leading 11 points this season.

All three attempts for MCLA on free kicks. Their best opportunity came in the 12th minute when senior Lauren Ford (Voorheesville, NY) booted a bid at the net, but it was corralled by senior Angieszaka Sychtysz (Warren, MA) for her only save of the contest.

Worcester State also led in corners, 12-0, seven coming in the second half.

Both squads will play non-conference opponents on the road on Tuesday. Worcester State travels to Plymouth State for a 4:30 match-up while the Trailblazers head to Lyndon State for a 4 PM kick-off.
