Women's Soccer Blanks Framingham State, 6-0

Framingham, MA --- The Worcester State University women's soccer team scored four second half goals en route to a 6-0 road win this afternoon over the Framingham State University Rams in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action at Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Lancers improve to 5-2-1 on the season and remain unbeaten in the MASCAC at 2-0, while the Rams fall to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.

Senior Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA) and freshman Therese Morss (Marion, MA) each tallied a pair of goals to lead the Lancers who outshot the Rams 23-8 in the game.  Clifford added an assist for Worcester State, while freshman Alyssa Sawyer (Uxbridge, MA) chipped in a goal and an assist.

Worcester State grabbed the lead for good just five minutes into the game on Clifford's first marker when she lobbed a shot at the net just out of the reach of the Rams goalkeeper.

The Rams had a chance to answer just over four minutes later as sophomore Kayla Austin (Winchester, MA) collected a loose ball at the twenty and fired a shot on net that WSU net minder Angiezaka Sychtysz (Warren, MA), who finished the game with five saves, was able to knock down.

The Lancers doubled their lead in the 26th minute as Clifford sent the ball ahead to senior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) at midfield. Rafferty was able to slip behind the Rams defenders alone and score her first of the season.

In the second half, the Lancers blew the game open with practically identical goals less than a minute apart.  Morss scored her first of the game at 55:20 after breaking away and beating the Rams keeper on a one on one and Sawyer followed with her goal at 56:32 on a similar play.  Clifford added her second of the game in the 65th minute and Morrs her second as she collected a loose ball in front of the net and knocked it home after a misplay by the Rams backline.

Framingham State goalie McKenzie Vershon (Chicopee, MA) made eight saves in the game including some huge stops in the first half to keep the Rams within striking distance.  Vershon made a sliding stop on Brooke Beckman's (Lakeville, MA) breakaway attempt late in the second half to keep the deficit at six. The Rams defense also came up big as Vershon was out of the net after a collision with a WSU attacker and sophomore defender Mary Brinkmann (Bridgewater, MA) knocked away a pair of shots till Vershon could regroup and make a save.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Clark University at 4 while the Lancers host Keene State on Thursday at 7 PM.
