Gonet Tabbed MASCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State sophomore forward Gaby Gonet has been named MASCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for helping lead the Lancers to a 2-0 record against two of the best teams in New England. For Gonet this is her second career honor.

Gonet, a native of Agawam, MA, collected a pair of goals including the game-winning tally in a 3-1 conference victory over Westfield State and a marker in a 2-1 triumph over Western Connecticut.

Prior to the game the Owls had been ranked ninth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America New England Poll (NSCAA) and the Colonials had been in the top 10 in every poll from the beginning of the season up until this past week.

Prior to the start of the week, Gonet had yet to register a single point this season as she is now tied for sixth on the squad with four points. Gonet, a 2010 second-team All-MASCAC honoree as a freshman, has totaled six goals and three assists for 15 career points.

Gonet last copped conference Player of the Week accolades on September 28, 2010 for totaling five points in a 2-0 week and the game-winning dish in a win over Framingham State.

After starting the season with a 0-2-1 record, the Lancers have won eight of their last nine to boast an overall record of 8-3-1. With a 3-1 mark in MASCAC play, WSU is alone in second place in the conference standings. The Blue and Gold are also ranked ninth in New England in the latest Continental Tire NSCAA regional poll.

Worcester State will travel to Rhode Island College on Tuesday for a 7 PM game before they finish off the week with a 1 o'clock matchup against Mass Maritime as the contest is apart of Saturday's homecoming festivities.
