Gonet, Connors, Beckman Lead Women's Soccer In Victory  Over Plymouth State

 

Worcester, MA --- Senior Brianne Beckman (Lakeville, MA), junior Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) and freshman Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) all scored two goals each as they helped pace Worcester State to an 8-1 triumph over Plymouth State in non-conference women's soccer action this evening at Coughlin Field.

Gonet got the Lancers (6-6-1) on the board in the 12th minute when she took a feed from the left side of the box from Beckman, who would also finish the contest with two helpers.

From the 21st minute on, the Blue and Gold scored four more times in a span of nine minutes.

Sophomore Alyssa Sawyer (W. Springfield, MA) added her first tally of the season, followed by two markers by Beckman and then Gonet finished off the run with her ninth goal of the year for the 5-0 advantage at the intermission.

To start off the final stanza, Connors netted her first collegiate marker in the 56th minute and then she chipped in her second goal six minutes later on a pass from classmate Kira Eleveld (Berlin, CT).

Plymouth State found a hole in the Lancer defense in the 75th minute and broke the shutout on Emily Bell's (Derry, NH) third goal of the season. Freshman Paige Snyder (Lincoln, RI) assisted for the Panthers on the play.

First-year Amanda Pruyn (Tyngsboro, MA) tacked on the contest's eighth goal on an assist from Beckman in the 88th minute.

Overall, Worcester State led in shots 17-8 and in corners, 4-0.

Junior Hannah Kimball (Epping, NH) finished with six saves for the Panthers while her counterpart, freshman Mia Koutoulas (Danvers, MA), ended her night with three stops for WSU.

With her six points tonight, Beckman jumped into 10th place on Worcester State's All-Time scoring list with 18 goals and 17 assists for 53 points in her outstanding career. She is only three helpers away from tying the career mark in the category.

Freshman Kaitlyn Coelho (Ludlow, MA) also had two dishes on markers in the opening frame.

The Lancers continue their schedule with a road game against Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday at 3:30. Plymouth State takes on Rhode Island College on Saturday at 4:30 PM in LEC action.
