Nichols 8, Worcester State 1

Dudley, MA --- The Nichols College women's tennis team tied a program record for wins in a season at nine with an 8-1 defeat over Worcester State College. Seniors Jessica Porter (Melrose, MA) and Deirdre Watkins (Hubbardston, MA) paced the Bison with two-set sweeps at No. 1 and No. 6 singles respectively, as the team celebrated senior day as part of the Nichols College homecoming this weekend.

Porter also teamed up with Molly McGuire (E. Sandwich, MA) to top Ashley Perkins (Worcester, MA) and Amy Mach (Springfield, MA) at second doubles, 8-1. McGuire improved to 10-2 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cullen at No. 2 singles.

Maria Balabanova (Moscow, Russia) defeated Nicole Sellner at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-0, and with first-year player Chelsey Miller (Salem, CT), teamed up for an 8-1 win over Britney Cullen (Milford, MA) and Albana Xhemollari (Worcester, MA) at top doubles. Miller was victorious at No. 2 singles, winning, 6-1, 6-1 over Xhemollari.

Watkins and Monica Bassi (Branford, CT.) were edged at third doubles, 9-7, by Sellner and Danielle Lehman.

The Bison are back in action on Tuesday, October 7, when they host Curry in their regular season home finale at 4 p.m.
