Providence, RI — Senior Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI), the reigning Little East Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, earned a straight-set (6-1, 6-1) victory at No. 1 singles, then teamed with sophomore Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI) for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, as Rhode Island College shut out visiting Worcester State, 9-0, on Monday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.

RIC (9-5) wins for the third straight match and for the fourth time in the club's last five contests. Worcester State drops to 3-7 in the loss.

The Anchorwomen picked up their second shutout win of the season as the hosts won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Freshmen Marissa Langellier (Greenville, RI) and Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) increased their team-high singles win totals to 12-2 at No. 5 and 6 singles, while pairing up to earn their ninth (9-5) win at No. 3 doubles.

The closest matches for the Lancers included second singles as junior Courteney Blais (Paxton, MA) forced a tiebreaker but lost 1-6, 6-4 and 7-10 while Blais and third-year Ashley Perkins (Worcester, MA/Doherty) were handed a 8-6 setback.

In upcoming action, Head Coach Liz Barrette's team will close out the regular season at Little East Conference rival UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 17.
