Blais Leads Womens Tennis to 6-3 Triumph Over Rhode Island College

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State University swept all three doubles matches and posted victories in a trio of singles matchups to defeat Rhode Island College, 6-3, in Little East Conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

The Lancers (2-1, 1-1 LEC) were led by senior Courteney Blais (Paxton, MA) who won at third singles, 6-2 and 7-6 (7-2), while she teamed with classmate Ashley Perkins (Worcester, MA/Doherty) to win at first doubles, 8-3.

Sophomore Mariah Tangney (W. Boylston, MA) won at fifth singles, 6-7 (12-10), 6-4, 10-7, and freshman Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) also posted a victory at sixth singles with scores of 6-2 and 6-2. The pair then teamed up to win at third doubles, 8-1.

Worcester State's sixth victory came at second doubles as sophomore Marissa Boss (Holden, MA) and Jacqueline Shaw (Uxbridge, MA) earned the 8-4 triumph.

For the Anchorwomen (0-3, 0-1 LEC), junior Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI) recorded the win at first singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-2 as sophomore Doris Belanger (W. Warwick, RI) won her last two sets in her second singles matchup, 2-6, 7-5, and 6-2. Second-year Kayla Morris (N. Smithfield, RI) blanked Shaw, 6-0 and 6-0, for RIC's third point at fourth singles.

Worcester State will play their next match on the road against Becker at 3:30 on Monday while Rhode Island College will head to Johnson & Wales on Tuesday for a 4 PM showdown.
