Women's Tennis Snaps Skid to Defeat MCLA, 8-1

North Adams, MA --- Worcester State University swept all three doubles matches and took home triumphs in five of six singles matches to post a 8-1 victory this afternoon in non conference women's tennis action. The Lancers (4-3) avoided dropping their third straight while the Trailblazers slip to 0-4 with the loss.

Senior teammates Ashley Perkins (Worcester, MA/Doherty) and Courteney Blais (Paxton, MA) teamed for the 8-4 win at first doubles while sophomore Marissa Boss (Holden, MA) and classmate Jackie Shaw (Uxbridge, MA) combined for the 8-1 victory at second doubles.

Second-year Mariah Tangney (W. Boylston, MA) and freshman Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) capped off pairs play with an 8-0 sweep to remain unbeaten (4-0) on the season.

Boss would post the victory at second singles (6-0, 6-1) as Blais improved her season mark to 5-1 with a sweep at third singles (6-0, 6-0). Tangney, Shaw and Michanczyk all won their sets in convincing fashion while Perkis was handed the lone setback as she lost at first singles 6-4 and 6-0.

Worcester State looks to improve their LEC record (1-3) with three matches next week starting with UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday at 3 o'clock. The Lancers will entertain Umass Boston on Thursday at 3 PM and Southern Maine on Saturday at 4 PM at Clark University.
