Women's Tennis Sweeps Anna Maria, 9-0

Paxton, MA --- The Worcester State University women's tennis team blanked Anna Maria College, 9-0, Friday afternoon at the Paxton Sports Centre. With the triumph, the Lancers (5-5) have surpassed their win total from last season when they finished the year at 4-9. The AMCATS fall to 2-11 on the year with the loss.

Seniors Ashley Perkins (Worcester, MA) and Courteney Blais (Paxton, MA) got things started for the Lancers with an 8-4 victory in first 1 doubles. Sophomores Marissa Boss (Holden, MA) and Mariah Tangney (West Boylston, MA) teamed-up for an 8-1 win from the the second slot, while sophomores Erin Desmarais (Gardner, MA) and Jackie Shaw (Uxbridge, MA) completed the doubles sweep for WSU with an 8-3 victory as the third seed.

Worcester State would go on to take all six singles matches as Perkins, Boss, Blais, Tangney, Shaw and Desmarais each earned points for the visitors.

 

The Lancers will take to the courts again on Tuesday when they face Western Connecticut State, while the AMCATS wrap up their 2010 season this Saturday, hosting Western New England at 6:00 PM.
