UMass Dartmouth Downs Women's Tennis, 8-1

North Dartmouth, MA --- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's tennis team won five of the six singles matches and went on to defeat visiting Worcester State, 8-1, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Friday.

The Corsairs improved to 10-1 and 6-1 in the conference with the victory, while the Lancers dropped to 5-8 and 1-7 in the LEC with the defeat.

Senior Amber Ubertini (Dalton, MA) and freshman Allison Furtado (Fairhaven, MA) each won twice for the Corsairs. Ubertini defeated freshman Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) at number five singles, 6-2, 6-4, and combined with senior Daniela Joggi (Stoneham, MA/Stoneham HS) to down senior Courteney Blais (Paxton, MA) and sophomore Jackie Shaw (Uxbridge, MA) at number one doubles, 8-4.

Furtado was victorious against sophomore Erin Desmarais (Gardner, MA) at number six singles, 6-3, 6-1, and teamed with sophomore Liz Girczyc (Attleboro, MA) to defeat Desmarais and Michanczyk at number three doubles, 9-7. Freshman Nicole Pelletier (Swansea, MA) downed sophomore Marissa Boss (Holden, MA) at number one singles, 6-0, 6-2; while freshman Angela Pollard defeated Shaw at number four singles, 6-1, 6-0.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit Rhode Island College Saturday. Worcester State will host Wentworth at 12 PM at Clark University on "Senior Day."
