Women's Tennis Earns 8-1 Triumph Against Newbury

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) recorded a win at second doubles and another victory at third singles to help lead the Worcester State to a 8-1 triumph in non conference women's tennis action this afternoon at Clark University.

The Lancers (1-1) started off the match when freshmen classmates Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) and Danielle Candelieri (Chemlsford, MA) earned the win at first doubles, 8-4, before Michanczyk and junior Mariah Tangney (West Boylston, MA) were victorious in their matchup, 8-2.

In singles action, Candielieri and first-year Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) dispatched of their opponents in straight sets at second and fourth singles, respectively, while Michanczyk needed the tie-breaker to win, 4-6, 6-2 and 10-8.

The Nighthawks (0-1) lone victory came when senior Kristen Conners (Palmer, MA) won at first singles 6-3 and 6-1.

Newbury defaulted their fifth and sixth singles matchups and their third flight doubles matchup for three of Worcester State's eight points.

Both squads have long breaks before they play their next matches. Newbury will head to UMass Boston on Saturday for a 1 PM trip while the Lancers play Becker next Tuesday (Sept. 13) at 3.
