Women's Tennis Evens Up Record In 8-1 Triumph Over MCLA

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State took five out of six singles points and all three doubles matches to defeat MCLA, 8-1, in non-conference women's tennis action this afternoon at Clark University. With the win the Lancers are now 2-2 overall while the Trailblazers slip to 0-2.

Freshman Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) paired with classmate Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) for the 8-4 win at first doubles while first-year Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) and sophomore Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) were both victorious, 8-1, at second doubles. Freshman Lisa Higgins (Pembroke, MA) and junior Erin Desmarais (Gardner, MA) tacked on the final doubles triumph in the third flight with an 8-2 triumph.

At singles Tomasetti, Michanczyk, Biron, Desmarias and sophomore Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) all won their respective matchups for the Lancers.

Senior Carrie Richards (Ludlow, MA) was the lone victor for the Trailblazers as she needed the tie-breaker to defeat Candelieri, 5-7, 6-2, 10-3.

The Lancers will continue their Little East Conference schedule when they take on Salem State on Tuesday at 3:30 PM while MCLA takes on Becker tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock.
