Women's Tennis Snaps Skid With Triumph Over Anna Maria

Paxton, MA --- Worcester State took home victories in five singles matches and a pair of doubles points to defeat Anna Maria, 7-2, in non-conference women's tennis action this afternoon. With the win and the loss, both squads now sport identical 3-4 records on the season.

Freshman Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT), sophomore Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT), first-year Miranda Biron (Webster, MA), second-year Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) and junior Erin Desmarais (Gardner, MA) all defeated their respective opponents in singles action.

Michancyzk and Biron teamed at second doubles while Sarkis and Desmaris paired at third doubles as both squads defeated their opponents by identical scores of 8-4.

The AMCACTS lone wins came when freshman Janice Wang (Branchburg, NJ) beat freshman Danielle Candelieri (Chemlsford, MA) at second singles, 6-3 and 7-5, and again when Wang and sophomore Amy Williamson (Spencer, MA) won at first doubles, 8-7.

Worcester State will play LEC opponents in the next week when they travel to Western Connecticut on Tuesday at 4, entertain Bridgewater State at Shrewsbury High on Thursday at 3:30 PM before they close out their home schedule with Plymouth State at Clark University on Saturday at one o'clock.

Anna Maria takes on Emmanuel at the Paxton Centre tomorrow at 11 AM in a GNAC affair.
