Salem State Blanks Women's Tennis, 9-0

Worcester, MA --- Senior classmates Lauren Turenne (Reading, MA), Carly Muniz (Gloucester, MA) and Patricia Quartararo (Lexington, MA) along junior teammates Melissa Govertsen (Billerica, MA) and Michelle McEwen (Billerica, MA) combined for seven wins to help lead the Salem State to a 9-0 triumph over Worcester State in Little East Conference women's tennis action this afternoon at Clark University.

With the win the Vikings remain unbeaten at 7-0 and 3-0 in LEC play while the Lancers fall to 3-5 and 0-3 in the conference standings.

McEwen, Turenne, Quartararo, Muniz, Govertsen and third-year Jessica Spinale (Saugus, MA) were all victorious in their respective singles matches. McEwen paired with Turenne for an 8-2 win at first doubles while Quartararo and junior Anna Yaskell (Stockholm, Sweden) defeated their opponents at third doubles, 8-1.

Muniz and Govertsen would edge WSU sophomore Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) and freshman Miranda Biron (Webster, MA), 8-6, for the final win at second doubles.

Both squads continue LEC play tomorrow afternoon. The Lancers will travel to Danbury, CT and face Western Connecticut at 4 PM while Salem State hosts UMass Boston at 3:30.
