Women's Tennis Drops 7-2 Decision On the Road To UMass Boston

Boston, MA --- Led by junior Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA), record setting doubles victory women's tennis cruised to a 7-2 Little East Conference win over Worcester State this afternoon on the BC High Courts.

In the triumph, the Beacons even out to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in LEC play while the Lancers slip to 3-8 and 0-6 in league play.

With Tuesday's 8-2 win at first doubles, Kloczewiak broke the program record for career doubles victory, as she earned her 26th career victory.  Along with her 6-1, 6-3 victory at first singles, Kloczewiak tied the program record for most combined wins. 

Helping Kloczewiak to her triumph was sophomore MaKenna Arrigo (Yarmouth Port, MA). The Beacons swept all three doubles matches, with second-year Samantha Counts (Bridgewater, MA) and junior Hieu Nguyen (Dorchester, MA) earning an 8-3 win at second doubles,and third-year classmates Katherine Perkins (Dennis, MA) and Wendy Steinman (Dudley, MA) earning an 8-4 victory at third doubles.

In singles play, Arrigo was victorious at second flight with her 6-1, 6-2 and 11-9 decision over first-year Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA).  Nguyen notched her 11th straight with a win at fifth flight.  Perkins closed out the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at sixth flight to help secure the win for the Beacons.

Earning the two Worcester State victories were sophomore Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) and freshman Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) at third and fourth singles, respectively. Biron needed an extra frame to dispach of her opponent, 6-1, 1-6 and 6-2.

UMass Boston will take on Salem State on Thursday at 3:30, but may move to tomorrow based upon the future forcast. The Lancers will take on Clark on Wednesday on "Senior Day" at 4 o'clock.
