Rhode Island College Posts 7-2 Win Over Women's Tennis

 

Worcester, MA --- Rhode Island College captured five singles matchups and a pair of doubles points to defeat Worcester State, 7-2, in Little East Conference women's tennis action this afternoon at Assumption.

At first doubles for the Anchorwomen (3-5, 2-1 LEC), freshman Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and sophomore Janice Wang (Branchburg, NJ) posted a 8-3 triumph while first-year Sarah Goodwin (Greenville, RI) and classmate Alyssa Diaz (Cranston, RI) were victorious at third doubles (8-4).

In pairs play the Lancers (3-4, 0-3 LEC) won, 8-4, with the team of freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and sophomore Miranda Biron (Webster, MA).

Campanella, sophomore Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT), freshman Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and Wang all earned wins at first, second, fourth and fifth singles, respectively.

The lone win for WSU at singles was junior Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) over second-year Gianna Vallante (Coventry, RI) with a 6-1, 6-0 sixth flight triumph.

Goodwin also came back to defeat Shepard in third singles for RIC with a 4-6, 6-1 and 1-0 (11-9) victory.

The Lancers are back in action tomorrow with a 12 PM contest on the road at MCLA while the Anchorwomen face off against Bridgewater State at home in an LEC matchup on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
