Women's Tennis Falls To Johnson & Wales, 6-3

 

Providence, RI --- Johnson and Wales swept doubles and took three of six singles points to earn a 6-3 triumph over Worcester State in non-conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

The Wildcats (7-0) earned the 8-2 at the top doubles flight by sophomore Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, NJ) and senior Laura Schwenk (Ottumwa, IA) before second-year Elizabeth Sammelbraun (Evanston, IL) teamed with Ansley Sego (Naperville, IL) for the 8-4 win at third doubles.

The matchup between senior Joanna Kaskiw (Carteret, NJ) and sophomore Gabrielle Longo (Philadelphia, PA) was closely contested as freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and second-year Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) were defeated, 9-7.

In singles, sophomore Darcy Predieri (Sudbury, OH) and Sammelbraun both won their respective matches for Johnson & Wales at first and fourth singles, respectively. 

Freshman Jennifer Castro (Chula Vista, CA) also won her matchup for the hosts, but she would go toe-to-toe with junior Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) who fell, 7-6 (8-6), 2-6 and 10-8.

Sophomore Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) was victorious for the Lancers at second singles (6-2 and 6-4) as Shepard followed suit with a 6-3 and 6-1 win at the third flight.

Worcester State will host Western Connecticut on Tuesday at 3:30 at Clark while the Wildcats host Simmons tomorrow in GNAC play at 12 PM.
