Women's Tennis Bows Out To Salem State In LEC Tournament Quarterfinals

 

Salem, MA --- Third-seeded Salem State blanked #6 Worcester State, 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the Little East Tournament on Tuesday. 

SSU improves its record to 7-4 overall and advances to the tournament semifinals to take on #2 UMass Dartmouth on Thursday at 3 PM. The Lancers end their season at 6-8 - a two-win improvement from last years campaign. 

The Vikings swept doubles as they were led by senior Michelle McEwen (Billerica, MA) and junior Maddy Ward (Somerville, MA) who dispached of sophomore Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) and freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) at first doubles, 8-2. 

Fourth-year Jessica Spinale (Saugus, MA) and classmate Anna Yaskell (Stockholm, Sweden) also earned the 8-0 win at second doubles over sophomore Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) and freshman Cassandra Goncalves (Ludlow, MA). 

At third doubles, junior Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) and teammate Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) lost to sophomore Lauren Woods (Burlington, MA) and freshman Tara Garvey (Palma, MA).

Salem State ended the match when McEwan defeated Candelieri, 6-1 and 6-1, at first singles and Ward posted a 6-0 and 6-0 win over Tomasetti.
