Bridgewater State Downs Women's Tennis, 7-2

Bridgewater, MA --- Bridgewater State senior Rachel Eramo (Rowley, MA), junior Alison Vautrin (Somerset, MA) and freshman Alisha Silva (E. Taunton, MA) all posted wins at singles and doubles to help lead the Bears to a 7-2 victory over Worcester State in Little East Conference women's tennis action this afternoon at the Rosen Tennis Courts.

The Bears (5-1, 3-0 LEC) swept doubles with closely contested victories. Silva and senior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, MA) defeated junior Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and sophomore Shelby Jankins (W. Brookfield, MA), 8-5 as the pair moved up one slot for the first time this season to play at the top.

Vautrin and Eramo then teamed to dispatch senior Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) and freshman Rachel Green (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy), 9-7, as the second seed.

At third doubles, freshman Bojana Roman (Somerset, MA) and teammate Alison Scagnelli (Sutton, MA) were victorious over freshman Natalie Paul (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) and freshman Faina Volf (Sharon, MA), 8-6.

Vautrin, Silva, Eramo and Roman all earned victories at second, third, fifth and sixth singles to close out the match. Shepard's 6-4 and 6-3 setback to Eramo was her first loss on the campaign in the fifth slot of the order.

Jankins defeated her Perron, 6-2 and 6-4 at first singles and Volf needed an extra super set to take home the 2-6, 6-2 and 10-4 triumph at third singles.

Both squads play LEC opponents in the next week. Worcester State heads to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday for a 3 PM match while BSU takes on unbeaten Rhode Island College on Wednesday at 3:30.
